Construction Unemployment Climbs to 17.3 Percent

November 5, 2010

Even as the number of people working in construction increased by 5,000 between September and October 2010, the industry’s unemployment rate rose to 17.3 percent, according to AGC’s analysis of federal employment figures released Friday.

Temporary government investments boosted commercial construction employment, offsetting further job losses in residential construction, AGC noted, but the industry’s unemployment rate is still nearly double the unadjusted national rate of nine percent.

Medicare Supplement Insurance

Medicare Supplement insurance is on the rise again in January 2011.  Did you know that you could apply for a plan that is effective 12/1/2010 in North Carolina and have that rate locked in for 6 months?  That means that you won’t see an increase in premium until May of 2011.  You may actually get a lower premium by switching as well.  Give Ray a call at 919-285-1758 so he can show you how much you could be saving!  The underwriting requirements are going to change in January as well making it harded to qualify for the lower rates.  If you have certain health conditions you will be rated higher than individuals that don’t have any health condidtions and you will pay a higher premium because of it.  Through the end of 2010 you have policies that have very little underwriting and are very easy to qualify for and are cheaper than the plans that are coming out in 2011.  See how much you could save by sending Ray an email at ray@nccontractorcomp.com!

Humana’s RX Plan

“Humana’s Basic PDP (Prescription Drug Plan) with the $15 premium got all the attention, but many agents believe United’s product is the better deal among the national carriers, since customers have to first meet a $310 deductible on Humana’s plan, while United’s product has no deductible. In addition, Humana members will incur significant copays on brand name drugs, particularly if they are non-preferred…”
